Treaty of Peace between India and Japan

1957

1958

Japan's first-ever official development aid was provided to India, assisting economic development of independent India. India and Japan have been helping each other ever since

1960

1988

Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi visited Tokyo and attended the inauguration of the Festival of India in Tokyo

2000

Japan's PM Mori visited India to launch India-Japan Global Partnership with PM Vajpayee, elevating bilateral political & business cooperation to a new height

2002

Delhi Metro supported by Japan's development aid commenced operations

2006

Agreement to undertake annual visit of PM and it continued since then, marking fast growing ties between India and Japan

2007

PM Abe visited India to deliver a policy speech “Confluence of the Two Seas” to the Indian parliament, calling for wider cooperation in the Indo- Pacific region

2011

Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement between India and Japan

2013

Japan's Emperor and Empress paid an official visit to India

2016

India-Japan Agreement for Cooperation in the Peaceful Uses of Nuclear Energy

2018

The first trilateral summit among India, Japan and United States America

2019

President of India's visit to Japan to celebrate the enthronement of Japan's new Emperor

India became the 18th largest business partner for Japan and Japan became the 12th largest business partner for India with 1,455 Japanese business firms operating in India
